Ulike vs Nood: Which IPL Hair Remover is Better?

No matter what hair removal solution you use, we know that most hair removal solutions are messy and so temporary. I mean, shaving only lasts for a few days at most; add to that the additional expense of shaving creams or gels. If you swear by waxing because it last longer, your pain threshold is definitely higher than mine! Hair removal creams might look like the best thing since sliced bread, but they are sticky and can’t be used everywhere (you know where I mean!). Do I hear you asking me if I’ve tried traditional laser hair removal at home… Umm, no, I don’t want another additional weekly payment to bother about. A friend of mine has recommended IPL hair removal in the past, and after a week of getting nowhere with hair removal creams, I decided to try two brands to see which I liked better –Ulike and Nood, both super popular devices for hair removal at home. After a month’s usage, here’s a comparison of what you can expect from both devices, and which one is better. What is IPL hair removal? Before we move onto the comparison bit, here’s a quick lowdown on what IPL is, in case you’re new to the concept or want to know how you’re left with silky smooth skin with a handheld device that isn’t a razor or epilator. IPL basically stands for Intense Pulsed Light. It uses strong pulses of light which are absorbed by the pigment in your hair. This causes energy to accumulate within the hair, turning it into heat. This heat moves downwards towards the cells that create the hair and destroys these cells. Results through IPL generally show up within 3-4 weeks. IPL is not the same as laser hair removal, no matter who tells you otherwise. However, like laser, you will need to repeat IPL treatments. IPL hair removal stands for Intense Pulsed Light hair removal, a method that targets hair follicles to reduce hair growth over time. Ulike vs Nood Here’s the part you’ve been scrolling for! Let’s compare the IPL devices from Ulike and Nood to see which one stands out. If you’re a beginner at IPL and this is your first device…. Ulike As a beginner, I found that Ulike was a lot easier to use, compared to Nood. I had read up on whether IPL hurts and many posts that I found online talked about how the pain was like a rubber band slapping against your skin. I’ll be the first to admit that my pain threshold is super low. That’s why I had put off trying IPL for so long. Many beginners may feel apprehensive about the pain associated with IPL, but understanding the process can help ease those concerns. With Ulike, what really helped was their Patented Sapphire Ice-Cooling Technology. What Ulike has designed is a flathead that uses patented Ice-Cooling Tech which is a triple temperature control cooling system designed to significantly remove pain and reduce common side effects. This technology actively controls the surface temperature when it makes contact with your skin. Instead of temperatures of 158 degrees Fahrenheit like other devices, Ulike has reduced the temperature to only 50 degrees Fahrenheit or 10 degrees Celsius. The result is nearly painless and a definite huge improvement on other devices that do not use this cooling technology. If you’re looking for state-of-the-art tech…. Ulike I liked the fact that Ulike uses state-of-the-art tech to create their devices. When I was browsing their website before buying their product, I found something both interesting and encouraging. Their About Me section says “R&D is at the core of who we are, and we invest at least 30% of our yearly profits into developing hair removal technology”. A company that invests in continually bettering its products definitely scores extra brownie points from me! A commitment to innovation and improvement often indicates a brand's dedication to customer satisfaction and product efficacy. If you’re looking for guaranteed results in a shorter time frame…. Ulike I’d venture a guess that because they invest so much in R&D, Ulike’s devices can guarantee results in 4 weeks. Compare this to Nood’s industry standard, an 8-week result guarantee, and you’ll see how you get results faster, in half the time with Ulike. This is a huge plus for me because I don’t want to spend frequent hours removing hair. With Ulike, I’ve found that results are both faster and consistent. If you’re looking for FDA-cleared products…. Both Both Ulike and Nood are FDA-cleared and that’s a great thing. However, I did see on Ulike’s website that they have been given the thumbs up by dermatologists. That does give them a slight edge in my books. There’s also a recommendation from Dr Hadley King, a Clinical Instructor of Dermatology at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. If you’re looking for a money-back guarantee… Both Both Ulike and Nood offer a 90-day money-back guarantee, which is great. However, I did read in Nood’s reviews that a woman named Deborah had a hard time getting a response when she wanted to return her device. That is a strong red flag in my opinion. I also love that Ulike offers a 2-year replacement warranty. That’s one full year more than Nood. The Ulike website is pretty clear on what the warranty covers, and that’s an additional advantage. If you’re looking to use IPL on different parts of your body… Ulike I really like that the Ulike device has 5 different levels that will suit different parts of your body. For example, I used level 1 on my face, but for my legs, I’ll usually use the level 5 setting. The Ulike device's multiple settings allow for personalized hair removal experiences, catering to various skin sensitivities and hair types. Also, I’m not sure if this will matter to most, but I love that the Ulike device comes with glasses to protect you from the pulsing light. Nood simply says that the FDA doesn’t require glasses, and hence their device comes without. The overall winner… (DRUMROLL PLEASE) is Ulike I really liked the luxe packaging and the aesthetic-looking design of the Ulike device. It ticks all the boxes I have for a hair removal device at home, especially considering I cannot stand high levels of pain. The Nood device did sting a bit and that’s why I found myself reaching for my Ulike Sapphire Air + instead. It also works out to be cheaper in the long run as compared to going to the salon multiple times a month. Related reading Nood vs. SmoothSkin: Which IPL Hair Removal Device is Better?
